Description:
Sexes alike. Pale grey-brown plumage, profusely spotted, streaked and . marked with white, mostly below; dark shaftstripes; prominent ear-tufts and dull yellow eyes diagnostic. Mostly pairs, sometimes three to four scattered; has favoured roost-sites in large, leafy trees; may call and fly during daytime.
Habitat:
Groves, light forest, roadside leafy trees, vicinity of habitation.
Distribution:
Most of the country south of outer Himalaya; status in extreme south of country unclear. Also occurs in Myanmar and Malaysia.

Deep, hollow, somewhat eerie hoot of five to eight notes fading towards end; interpreted as woo…wo…wo…wo…o… o…o.
