Yellow Bittern

Description: 

A small heron very similar to the Little but with a beige-brown back, black flight feathers, tail and crown that act as a contrast to the buff body. Rear neck is darker, and foreneck whiter with faint streaking. Female and immature have more rufous coloured streaking.

Habitat: 
Inhabits reedbeds and wet scrub near a rivers and jheels and wet paddy. Solitary but breeding densities can be quite high. Usually seen in feeding flights.
Distribution: 
Rather local breeding resident mainly in the Northeast, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and IndoGangetic Plains. Mainly monsoon breeding visitor to the Northwest.
Call: 
Call Description: 
Rarely a sharp kark. Male’s breeding call is a quiet uu…uu.
