The Spotted Dove is a rare breeding resident. In its favoured areas it is frequently seen picking up grit on the roads (to aid in digestion), or walking sedately along forest paths. Frequent canal rest houses with their large shade trees provide microcosms of its foothill environment and are the most frequented sites. Away from such places it is only reported from other tree clumps and irrigated farmland with trees. When not feeding on the ground it can be inconspicuous in thick foliage. Its rather doleful “cro cro cro” or “cruk cru croo” should be listened for.
