Description:
A large, streaked brown lark with a short crest. Similar to Oriental but obviously larger with clear, white outer tail feathers and trailing edge to wings. No rusty colouring in wings. Looks much whiter below with finer breast and flank streaking. Rather long wings and tail. Sexes similar.
Habitat:
Inhabits fallow, stubble and young cereal cultivation. Feeds on invertebrates and seeds on ground. Frequently dust-bathes. Often in large flocks. Rather shy and flighty.
Distribution:
Locally common but rather erratic winter visitor to lowlands of Pakistan and northern India east to Uttar Pradesh and south to Rajasthan.
Call:
Call Description:
A loud, dry chirrup or a musical truee, often repeated and with variants. Famous, continuous song delivered in towering songflight.
