Description: 

Brown above, more rufous below; dark brown wings, almost blackish tail. Overall appearance like female Indian Robin. Usually pairs, around ruins, dusty villages, rocky hillsides; often approaches close; tame and confiding; captures insects on ground; rather aggressive when breeding.

Habitat: 
dry, open country, rocky hills, ravines, ruins, habitation.
Food: 
insects; occasionally kitchen refuse
Distribution: 
confined to parts of N and C India, from Punjab and W Uttarakhand, south to about Narmada river; east to the Bihar-Bengal.
Call: 
Call Description: 
harsh chaeck… note; also a whistling chee call; melodious song of breeding male; a good mimic.
